how did we get here?

Kay’s Kookies was established in 2014. The business came about when Chef Kay was working long hours in a corporate kitchen and was expecting her fourth child.

One day Kay made a list of other jobs she could do so that she could spend more time with her kids. During this time she would often take cookies to her job events and to her kids’ school. I’m not sure why it didn’t instantly click; Kay didn’t realize that she could actually work and be very passionate about her job!

She soon put two and two together and decided to start her own business.

It only seemed right, when looking at her past experiences to consider the path of entrepreneurship. Since she was only 10 years old Kay had loved baking cookies. She started baking cookies with her sister and shared them with her classmates. That helped her to gain confidence and become more social. Kay couldn’t keep quiet when someone would ask her about cookies. Learning the history of her favorite cookies (Famous Amos) fascinated her.

After learning about careers in the Food Industry, Kay knew she wanted to become a Chef and work in an upscale restaurant one day. Following high school, Kay went to Le Cordon Bleu. She learned all about French savory cuisine and pastries. She fell in love with cooking and baking!

At home Kay would easily whip up gourmet dinners and desserts.

Her kids grew up always seeing their mom in the kitchen while becoming excellent taste testers.

Of course she had to teach her daughter!

Kay’s daughter enjoyed baking cookies and loved sharing them just as much as her mother. Kay became popular for her cookies at her kids’ school.

Little did she know she was gaining experience in making fresh cookies without preservatives. The cookies were tasty and much better for you than what was in the grocery store. When her son was just two years old he would often open the refrigerator and try to get cookies from his father’s secret hide away.

Thanks to his dad… he developed a sweet tooth, so Kay had to make cookies that were better to eat with natural ingredients, real butter, and no preservatives.

After expecting her fourth child she decided to see if she could turn her passion into a real business. Kay started to develop her menu, beginning with classic cookies. Then she later came up with the genius idea of dessert cookies, mainly because she wanted to eat dessert and not feel guilty. This was a way to have the flavor Kay was craving with less calories! One cookie definitely did the trick. Once she had the cookies down to a science she started to make cupcakes, cookie cakes, brownies, cakes and seasonal desserts on request.
